RIP Jeanette Anna MacDonald
June 18, 1903 - January 14, 1965
I’ve often been asked why Jeanette was the only singer to stay at the top of her screen specialty. The reasons are simple. First, her red-haired beauty, her figure, her unusually rare acting ability for a singer, and on top of all that, a crystal voice, fresh as spring water. It would appear that Jeanette could have been an important star, even without the help of her voice. But with that nightingale talent tossed into the bargain, she became what she became: unbeatable. Moreover, she is a serious woman and performer whose head is planted firmly on her shoulders. She has everything! The others, not everything. Our four films together were experiences to cheer for my having been in such adorable company.
